Birthday wrap up...

We finally got to celebrate Sophie's birthday with the family last Wednesday. She still wasn't feeling the best but well enough to open presents of course.

 Birthday cake round two!

Working on her lego set from Jodi.

Sophie got an American Girl doll from Nanna for her birthday.  It FINALLY arrived in the mail on Friday. Now we just need to keep Jake and scissors away from that doll.

Let's not forget what happened to poor Izzy!

And then there's Jake.

Sophie brought a pretty cool treat to school for her birthday. We (and by we I mean Nanna and Sophie) put two powdered donuts on a cake stick so it looked like the number eight. The tag said... it's great to be 8. She couldn't wait to pass these out at school. And the best part was I didn't have to bake anything!!! Yes!

Sophie is Eight

Well... Sophie didn't have the best birthday. She came down with a fever Saturday night and it got up to 103.7 at one point yesterday. She has a bad cough and congestion which is viral. She also has an ear infection so she's on meds for that. I woke her up last night around 3am to give her the next dose of ibuprofen and she was fever free - yah! So far so good today. She was completely bummed that she didn't get to have her family party but we plan to celebrate very soon. Even with the high temp we were able to have a few happy birthday moments.

Sophie had a bagel cake for breakfast.

At the doctor's office..  so upset she was sick on her bday.

And since it was too late to cancel the cakes for the party... we went ahead and enjoyed her birthday cake just the four of us. Next time you see Mike you should ask him how well transporting the cake went!!!

Our first visit to Captain Curt's. Corn Fritters - YUM!

 Our walk to the beach!

Apparently Jake thinks building sand castles is the best thing ever!

Siesta Key

A weekend trip to Florida... this year Nanna and Grandpa's Christmas present to us was a trip to Florida at the end of February. It was a little chilly the first day but that didn't bother the kids one bit - they couldn't get to the beach fast enough. The second day was full of sun and warm weather. Here's a quick summary of our days... go to the beach, eat fish, beach shops, repeat!

The kids collected seashells with Grandpa and brought tons home to show everyone. Jake and Sophie LOVED being in the ocean. The pool was a distant memory after playing in the waves and making sand castles. We rode bikes on the beach one morning where I almost ran into a little old lady - she was not pleased with me. Mike and I took a walk on the beach where we saw a jelly fish... then I stepped on a bee, started kicking Mike and screamed to get it off. I was convinced for about an hour I was going to have an allergic reaction and end up at the ER.

Sophie tried salmon and grouper and actually liked it! Jake ate tons of mac and cheese with fries. I had the BEST hot dog ever. So good. The grouper and shrimp Mike and I had the last night was awesome... especially since Nanna peeled the shrimp for me!!! We ended up with a whole new Siesta Keys wardrobe for Sophie and more stuff animals! But the stuffed animals are from Florida so it's completely different... right???

The end of the trip came too quickly... especially when we had to wake up at 4:00am to catch our flight. Also going from a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder to a mini-van with cracker crumbs is a sad realization that you're really not at the beach anymore.

Here's a ton of can click on the pics to make them bigger and scroll through them.
